Palm oil is one of the most common ingredients in commercial and handmade soap. It is inexpensive, widely available, and helps create a hard long lasting bar. Even so, at The Crow’s Croft, we choose to make our soap without palm oil.

This decision is rooted in environmental responsibility, ingredient transparency, and how we believe soap should be made.

Why Palm Oil Is Common in Soap

Palm oil is popular in soap making because it is versatile and shelf stable. It helps harden bars and extend their lifespan. For large scale production, it is often the easiest choice.

But ease is not our primary goal.

We prefer to use ingredients we can source responsibly and understand fully.

Why We Choose Alternatives

Instead of palm oil, we rely on lard and other carefully selected oils that provide the same functional benefits without the environmental concerns.

Lard creates a hard long lasting bar with a creamy lather and gentle cleansing properties. It allows us to make high quality soap without relying on palm oil.

Palm oil is not inherently bad for skin, but it is not necessary. By excluding it, we keep our ingredient lists shorter and easier to understand.
